This standard is almost identical to the ISO 14001 Environmental
Management Standard and adopts the same methodology and general
structure, but is directed at safety rather than environment.
Any company with ISO 14001 in place will find it relatively easy
to integrate OHSAS 18001 within an ISO 14001 system. The ISO
14001 environmental standard has proven to be one of the most
effective of the standards and one of best received by those who
have implemented its requirements. It is for this reason that
OHSAS 18001 has mirrored its requirements. The benefits in terms
of safety improvement and control should also mirror the success
of ISO 14001 for those who implement its requirements.
